Soil nailing is a form of ground modification designed by TerraTech that reinforces a soil mass during excavation. An array of nails are placed across potential slip surfaces. The soil mass is supported by the development of tensile and shear forces in the nail. Three major applications of soil nailing are retaining walls, slope stabilization and excavation support systems. The nails are constructed using steel rods grouted into drilled holes to create a stable mass. As excavation proceeds, wire mesh and shotcrete are applied to the soil. TerraTech's patented precast system or cast in place concrete can be installed as a facing. |
